Stirling
Triathlon
This
year Stirling was in June, one week after our own triathlon. The whole
event had changed since last year, some changes for the better some
not. The transition area was now in the car park at the top of a hill
rather than the field, which is now a building site for a new 50-meter
pool. Where the sprint and novice cyclists split, previously a right
hand turn, low and behold it was now a roundabout! Even the return
to the transition area had changed, for the better because there was
no longer the suicidal left hand hairpin turn.
As any one who has competed at Stirling knows this can be quite hair
raising (excuse the pun.)
The
run had also changed from going clockwise instead of anti-clockwise,
so all the hill etc. that you know from old was out. It felt quite
different! But scenic as ever, no matter which way you went. Even
the finish had changed, no longer risking life and limb to cross the
road in the path of out going cyclists and cars.
On
the whole I enjoyed the triathlon, changes and all. During the swim
I recognised one of the men in my swim heat, not by his face but his
trunks, I remember swimming behind him in the Haddington Triathlon.
So what do you say: hi! We were in the same heat in Haddington last
week, I know that, because I recognise your trunks? I think not, anyway
on that humorous note I'll have to finish.
Once
again a good turn out from the club. Taking part were novices Jane
Timms and Debbie Rae. Sprint Mick Starr, Gordon Rae, Keith Christie,
Lynn Dale, Ian McCracken and myself.
