Ensure
You’re Insured
No one thinks it will happen to them, sadly it can and it does.
So give insurance a thought.
Being a triathlete is an expensive business.
You have a large investment in yourself given the time and effort
taken to get into top condition, not to mention the investment in
equipment for not one, but three disciplines. Add up the cost you’ll
be surprised!
Three kinds of insurance are required to protect
this investment.
They are equipment, personal accident, &
public liability.
Some or all of this cover can be had under your
household insurance but please check the small print. There may be
restrictions on value, exclusion of racing or extra premiums to pay
to get the required cover, moreover if you do have a claim there can
be an excess and the likelihood of future higher premiums.
An alternative would be to join the S.T.A. and
support your National Association, which brings the benefit of free
insurance. Cover is provided for Public Liability and Personal Accident
whilst training or racing. Therefore
you only need additional cover for your equipment through your household
policy should this be thought necessary.
I had an accident cycling to work that was classed
as a training accident and a claim was made through the S.T.A. for
personal injury.
While this claim was met promptly by the S.T.A.’s
insurers, I am some three years on, still trying to resolve the legal
case.
My equipment is insured under my household policy
and I have public liability and personal injury through my S.T.A.
membership.
Details of the S.T.A. cover is printed in its
handbook for those wishing to do further reading.
